The Cuckoo Conundrum

“You’ve been away for too long, he replies, in a tone that I think sounds reproachful. Maybe I’m being paranoid.

I made a family, I say. My husband has a job that isn’t here.

A lot has happened, you know, he says. We go on, not like some people.”

In this short story, two cousins grapple with alienation and homesickness as they move between Singapore and Britain.
