inspired by Lost Bodies: Poems between Portugal and Home
by Heng Siok Tian, Phan Ming Yen, Yeow Kai Chai, and Yong Shu Hoong
Launching 6 November 2016, 1 - 2 PM, Gallery II @ The Arts House
Lost Bodies: Poems between Portugal and Home is a collection of poems written by Heng Siok Tian, Phan Ming Yen, Yeow Kai Chai, and Yong Shu Hoong over the course of a 12-day trip to Portugal. Each day, one of them would suggest a stimulus, and from each stimulus, another would provide the first and last lines of a yet-to-be-written poem. All this while, Kai Chai was writing poems in Singapore, responding to the same prompts.
The poets were in the same space, and experiencing the same day – yet each dreamed a different world with their words. This reflects how one’s individual timeline exists in parallel to everybody else’s. On a similar note, the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows had coined the word Sonder, or “the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own”.
Bringing these two thoughts together, we started 8AM in to share the parallelism of our lives, for us to be aware of the presence of these connections and crossovers with the people around us.
Let’s share a moment each day at 8 am together, alone, to be alone, together.

BTO is so 2000, we're jumping one step ahead of HDB to introduce Print-To-Order (PTO). We require all interested parties to start by completing this personality test for us to understand you better. This highly accurate test helps us to build an unique apartment to your taste and preferences.

PTO comes from one of the short story in Clara Chow's debut collection, Dream Storeys. After interviewing the 9 architects about their dream buildings, architectural and life philosophy, Clara transforms each of their words into an alternative Singaporean landscape—one that exists only on paper—and the people that might be in it. What kind of Singapore do you dream of?
What is your story?
inspired by Children of Las Vegas
by Timothy O'Grady
Launching 12 November 2016, 7 - 9 PM, The Pod @ National Library, Level 16
We all know about the neon lights of Las Vegas, but what dwells in the shadow of these lights? Timothy O'Grady got a glimpse into the shadows when his students at the University of Las Vegas started sharing their stories of being robbed by their parents, routinely losing their homes and raising themselves while their parents pursued the addictions serviced by the city. There were overdoses, desert shoot-outs, suicides, all before high school was over.
With all city lights comes the shadows, and the question is: what lies in the shadows of Singapore? We are having a story sharing session at the launch of Children of Las Vegas on 12 November, and we want to hear your story of #addiction #gambling #family.
Know of someone else's story? We welcome you to share it too. Email email@example.com for more details of how to share.
