Suzanne Choo

Suzanne Choo is Assistant Professor in the English Language and Literature Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. She completed her PhD in English Education at Columbia University, USA and her MA in English Studies from the National University of Singapore. A former secondary English and Literature teacher, she now teaches courses on literature and poetry at the National Institute of Education and has conducted poetry workshops for many teachers over the last ten years. She has previously written two books on teaching the Unseen with Robert Yeo – Sharpening the Senses (Learners Publishing), Mining for Meaning: A Guide to the Unseen for Lower Secondary Students (Scholastic) and Mining for Meaning: A Guide to the Unseen for ‘O’ and ‘N’ level Students(Scholastic).

Sense and Sensitivity: A Guide to Unseen Poetry for the GCE ‘O’ and ‘N’ Level Exam provides a systematic and comprehensive approach to developing skills for critical close reading of poetry. Students will be taught how to gain a "big-picture" sense of the poem before acquiring sensitivity to form and literary techniques including word choice, figurative language, symbolism, word order, and sound among others.
