Wei Lin our marketing manager has tasked me to write this week’s Attunement to you, and so here I am doing that. Not trying to pad out the word count with filler words in this beginning paragraph, nope, not at all…
I didn’t really have much time this week to think about what to write, since we’ve been busy prepping for our pop-up bookstore which is happening next weekend (obligatory link here. Me included, as I take care of our sales and stocks and am frantically trying to make sure we have everything prepared so that you dear—potential, hopeful—visitor will have a good time at Ethos Dreams.
From scrounging for chairs yet again, getting a banner canvas from our friends and Midview neighbour A Craft Initative, and borrowing an industrial fan from The Projector (shoutout to Darien 🙏) we’re doing this to host a number of very special community events at a pretty unconventional (and un-airconditioned) space. It is all thanks to Mr Fong, retired founder of Ethos Books, co-founder of Dakota Dreams, and rising acting legend, who suggested that Ethos could take over the Dakota Dreams space back in May during our company retreat.
Events like these can only happen with the support of community, and I’m so happy that we can lean on allies from across the literary and arts spaces to support us and join us when we’re trying to do something new, to present our readers fresh ways of having conversations and engaging with our books.
Orang Laut SG, Books and Beer, Wormhole and Teh Tarik with Walid will all be bringing their very special flavours of community in the days that they’ll be with us at Old Airport Road Food Centre, and I hope you’ll be tempted to make multiple visits to Ethos Dreams to keep us company 😊
At least come and enjoy the breeze from the fan, OK? - Jen
