Synopsis

Do childhood dreams come true? This is the question asked by the author in The Story of Ms. Poet. It is a story about a girl who wants most of all to write poetry in Singapore. Along the way, she must draw upon her inner strength to fulfill her dreams and find her own story.

This is also a book about the value of the imagination and creativity, as well as the need to think more deeply about the world around us.

About the Author

Khoo Lilin is currently a Junior College teacher. At University, she wrote her Honours thesis on the significance of food in Children’s Literature, for which she looked at some two hundred children’s titles. Although some of her academic essays have been published before, The Story of Ms. Poet is her first extended piece of fiction. In her writing, she is inspired by books, art, (especially the work of the Surrealists) and people. In between working on her M.A. thesis and marking GP scripts, she can be found making funky jewellery or sipping caramel tea.

Illustrator Khoo Li Ying is a third-year undergraduate student at the NTU School of Art, Design and Media, with a minor in Communication Studies. Her interests include photography, Art History and Literature, and she is much inspired by her teachers – both past and present. She likes strange dreams, peppermint creams and clouds, and dislikes defining herself in the third person.
